Thin Client Adoption Rate Increases
Two influential analyst firms recently reported on thin client trends. IDC found that thin client adoption increased 36% in the first half of 2006 over the first half of 2005. And Gartner estimates desktop TCO using server based computing is 12-48% lower than with distributed PCs. This is good news for companies investing in Virtual Access.

Accelera Solutions Implements Wireless Solution for Arlington County
Accelera began a pilot in late FY 2005 to test the feasibility of wireless connection to Permits Plus, Arlington County's software for building construction and code enforcement. Using Tablet PCs, the project would enable inspectors to perform the same tasks in the field as they do in their offices. Inspectors' tasks are daunting. The County's Building Inspectors perform between 220 and 280 inspections each day. The average turnaround time to enter a result could take three days. Code Enforcement Inspectors investigate between 328 and 392 cases each month.
Accelera's Citrix-based solution has had a dramatic impact. Inspectors now capture results in real time, and respond to increasing demands more quickly. They also have more time to canvas neighborhoods and identify visible violations. The result has been a measurable decrease in citizen complaints. Very little bandwidth is required (50-100kb), and Citrix is faster then using a remote desktop connection. The average processing speed is just 5 to 15 seconds.
