Insight into Upgrading Operating Systems to Windows Vista™
"There's an old saying in hockey about the need to skate to where the puck is going to be versus where it is now. When it comes to opportunity for solution providers, it seems pretty clear that Citrix has given a lot of thought to where the puck is going to be in 2007."

Early reports are that Citrix will be a major player as millions of customers consider their Microsoft Vista roll out strategy for 2007. In a recent research note, Merrill Lynch is projecting that thin-client and server based computing software companies like Citrix are likely to benefit over the Vista upgrade cycle. Merrill anticipates increased demand for Citrix Presentation Server™. Three key reasons for this are:
Lower cost to upgrade hardware. This is because Vista’s processing demands could favor virtual desktops. Server-level deployment with thin client or PC access means lower desktop hardware upgrade costs. Merrill sees many organizations looking to a phased upgrade, and recognizes the value of Citrix. "Citrix Presentation Server’s virtualization capabilities provide a means to manage phased migrations to Vista, which could be particularly attractive to larger organizations," says Merrill.
Ease of management. Because most IT organizations will likely run both Vista and Windows XP for some time, Citrix will allow IT to manage both environments from a Citrix server, rather than the desktop level. Over the past two years, we’ve seen the trend to deploy thin clients while centralizing application access and delivery. Citrix Presentation Server is recognized as the industry leader in centralized deployment of desktops and applications.
Accelerated Migration. As noted by eWeek Channel Insider, Citrix is moving toward making Citrix Presentation Server the user interface for composite applications that access back-end data sources. Look for this trend to continue as enterprise computing models continue to evolve to service-oriented architectures (SOAs).
When planning your migration to Windows Vista, adding Citrix Presentation Server can not only accelerate your migration, but it can also save money and resources, minimize disruption, and lead to greater user satisfaction.

The Latest Accelera Projects and Contracts
Deploying Citrix on AHLTA for the European Air Command
U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), a major command of the U.S. Air Force, has contracted with Accelera to architect, design and implement a solution to make AHLTA easier to deploy and support across the Command. AHLTA is the military’s electronic health record (EHR) system. Accelera was selected because of unequaled experience with Citrix and AHLTA. This centralized computing model will help USAFE provide a more cost effective solution to its current business practices.
As part of this solution, Accelera will install and configure two products from the Citrix Access Suite™—Presentation Server and Password Manager. The solution will:
- Reduce login and logout times by providing a fast user switching environment.
- Allow AHLTA users to “pickup where they left off” from any workstation in the hospital.
- Facilitate single sign-on to AHLTA.
- Centrally deploy and manage AHLTA.
Similar solutions by Accelera have improved productivity of AHLTA users, reduced software maintenance costs, reduced upgrade costs and increased the client device lifecycle.
Accelera Develops Remote Access Solution for Hogan & Hartson
Accelera recently deployed a streamlined and cost effective secure remote access solution for Hogan & Hartson (H&H). The large law firm was using a managed IPSEC VPN service that was cumbersome to configure and difficult to use. The solution Accelera implemented leveraged Citrix Access Gateway Advanced Edition. This solution provided a very easy-to-use SSL VNP with “On Demand” client software deployment requiring no client configuration. The Citrix Access Gateway also performs “End Point Analysis” for H&H. This determines if the client computer meets all required security protocols before allowing the user controlled access to the network.
The Accelera solution has provided ROI within just three months of deployment because of the reduced cost of support and the elimination of the managed IPSEC VPN service.
