Wireless Solution Improves Service for Arlington County
Accelera conducted a pilot to test the feasibility of wireless connection to ‘PERMITS’ Plus®, Arlington County’s software for building construction and code enforcement. Using Tablet PCs, the project would enable inspectors to perform the same tasks in the field as they do in their offices. Inspectors’ tasks are daunting. The County’s Building Inspectors perform between 220 and 280 inspections each day. The average turnaround time to enter a result could take three days. Code Enforcement Inspectors investigate between 328 and 392 cases each month.
Accelera’s Citrix-based solution has had a dramatic impact. Inspectors now capture results in real time, and respond to increasing demands more quickly. They also have more time to canvas neighborhoods and identify visible violations. The result has been a measurable decrease in citizen complaints. Very little bandwidth is required (50-100kb), and Accelera’s Citrix deployment is faster then using a remote desktop connection. The average processing speed is just 5 to 15 seconds.
