Client Solution Brief

Citrix Presentation Server Farm Brings Web Mail to Federal Trade Commission

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) selected Accelera to facilitate enterprise access to internet web mail sites such as Yahoo and Hotmail. An increasing concern to small agency CIOs, web email sites have been pinpointed as exposing agencies to malicious code. The web filter at the FTC, as with many small agencies, is configured to prohibit access to these sites at client workstations. Accelera will help the FTC enable access to mail sites, while dramatically reducing the risks.

Accelera restricts and tracks access to these web email sites to a subset of users by creating a Citrix Server Farm. Segmented from the Production Network by a firewall, the Server Farm connects to the internet via the IPRISM. The IP addresses are configured on the IPRISM web filter to allow access to approved web email sites. The solution prevents web based software from running on a workstation within the FTC. In the event that a virus is somehow launched from within that web mail session, it is isolated to one of the Citrix servers and remains behind a firewall. This solution supports up to 300 concurrent users.
